Rebels sign lopeti timani to new contract
SOUTHERN CROSSROADS (10 June): Lions hooker Lopeti Timani has signed a new three-year deal with South Sydney until the end of the 2014 season.
The 27-year-old is likely to join the Lions in free agency this month.
Timani, who arrived from Melbourne in January, was released from Melbourne last September and was one of the key players in their success last season, finishing fourth in the league.

He took over at hooker during the summer when the NRL had a strong crop of new recruits and played 18 matches in total, starting nine.
He’s been a consistent performer since his return and is set to be rewarded for his efforts next season.
«I like playing in the hands of my teammates, I like that I get the opportunity to perform for the club and in front of my fans, which is a great feeling,» he said.
Lions head coach Stephen Kearney said Timani would not only help his team’s development but assist in «helping a young player like myself improve» next season.
TIMANI REVEALS NEW ROLE
The Lions are expected to release veteran hooker Craig Bellamy from his contract on Friday.
Bellamy had one of his worst seasons of the past five years, struggling to make an impact after he was picked for the World Club Series.
«There is no doubt that Craig’s role with the team is diminished by being out for so much time and time again,» Kearney said.
«From a competitive standpoint we will be keen to bolster the team in an age-grade environment while also giving a real boost to an emerging talent like Timani.»
